Review Huawei P9: flagship smartphone with Dual Camera Leica

Today Huawei unveiled three smartphone at once – standard edition Huawei P9, as well as its larger version Huawei P9 Plus and simplified version Huawei P9 Lite. In this article I’ll tell you about Huawei P9.

Huawei P9: Design and body materials

If you look at new Huawei P9 you do not immediately notice the difference from last year’s Huawei P8. The shape of body is unchanged, and front panel is covered by a protective glass with 2.5D effect. The back panel and sides are made of metal, and plastic is used around the main camera and flash.

Dimensions of the device are excellent – with diagonal screen 5.2”, smartphone is convenient in terms of screen size, and comfortable in terms of grip and body width. In my opinion, the screen size 5′- 5.5” will remain optimal for smartphones for at least another year.

The quality of the build is excellent even in the pre-production sample. I do not think that the final version of smartphone will have some problems.

Huawei P9: Controls

As part of the control new Huawei P9 is no different from last year’s model. In the lower area of the display are onscreen touch keys. On the left edge is two nanoSIM tray or SIM and microSD memory cards (combined). On the right are the volume buttons and the power button.

At the bottom end is 3.5 mm mini-jack, loudspeaker, microphone and connector USB Type-C.

Fingerprint reader is located on the back panel.

Huawei P9: Screen

Huawei P9 has 5.2” screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The display is excellent, with maximum viewing angles and good colors. Perhaps someone was waiting for SuperAMOLED screen that Samsung has gradually begins to sell to manufacturers, but IPS-matrix is still good. By the way, Huawei P9 Plus uses AMOLED-matrix.

Huawei P9: Camera

Huawei has conducted an experiment using two main cameras in Honor 6 Plus. New smartphone Huawei P9 uses the same sensors.

Two 12 megapixel module, F2.2, laser focus, the ability to manually select the aperture value in a wide range (software). In practice, you can get beautiful bokeh, but system not always correctly separates the foreground and background. To be honest, I do not believe that the firmware is somehow better, but otherwise I liked the camera.

Huawei P9 has an interesting feature and its name is Leica. As noted in company, Huawei P9 used Leica optics and proprietary algorithms, in other words, practically everything, except the interface, created in conjunction with Leica camera.

Huawei P9: Platform and Memory

Huawei P9 is the company’s first device based on the latest self-developed platform HiSilicon Kirin 955. It is an eight-chip, quad-core Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.8 GHz and quad-core Cortex-A72 at a frequency of 2.5 GHz.

Huawei P9 will be available in two versions – 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory or 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. In both cases, the memory can be expanded by installing microSD card in one of the slots for SIM-card.

Conclusion

At first glass Huawei P7, then a non-specific Huawei P8, and now Huawei P9 – Chinese company continues to move in the right direction. Huawei P9 is well balanced and expensive device. In addition, for those who need a larger screen, Huawei P9 Plus is the best choice, and those who do not want to spend much money on a smartphone, the company offers Huawei P9 Lite.

If we believe that Huawei is still growing and learning company, the whole picture is nice – from year to year, the company makes a balanced smartphones, and in a few years the comparison of the Chinese brand with the South Korean will not cause surprises.
